Who to believe?

Researchers are reporting [Reuters] in the journal of Health Affairs that the US placed last in a survey of preventable deaths due to treatable conditions when thrown into a field of 19 industrialized nations. Upwards of 100,000 deaths could have been prevented if the US adopted socialized healthcare like everyone else.

Problem is....

According to the Daily Mail upwards of 70,000 people in Britain's NHS (National Healthcare System) went "vacationing" abroad for the purpose of receiving medical care due to fear of contracting an infection in the hospital and long waits for care. This is just Britain folks.

Further in the article the NHS tries to instill confidence in its system by stating that infections are down and that "over half of all patients are treated within 18 weeks of seeing a GP". Now call me crazy but in the US if you see your doctor and something needs to be done you aren't going to be expected to wait upwards of 4 1/2 mos to have a %50 chance of being seen by someone and treated.

So how does the US give access to preventative care to it's fattening population without ending up going to Hungary for dental care? It's easy to pose the question from the comfort of my expensive computer chair...

In the meantime here are 4 things that can prolong your life an additional 14 years:
  1. Drink Moderately
  2. Exercise
  3. Quit Smoking
  4. Eat 5 servings of fruit and veggies each day
