Budget Cuts
I've been ranting over in the comment section of the BDN of late and on the boards over at AMG (As Maine Goes), so sorry for the lack of posting here....
In reference to this BDN article:
Augusta is currently looking at ways to balance the budget and nobody in the ruling party has really stepped up to the plate to make tough choices yet so what do they do....hmmmm....You know what a perfect opportunity for us (Augusta Democrats) to ax 5 of the 7 people working for OPEGA (Office of Program Evaluation and GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY) all in the name of forced budget cuts. Handicapping the states lone, non partisan watchdog organization that ROUTINELY sounds the alarm to the waste and overspending in this state is NOT the way to balance the budget. WVOM (local talk radio) had a sound cut of Hanna Pingree lamenting how they "tried so hard" to make cuts but those old Republicans just didn't want to play ball...Obstructionists.
